Personal Bests
Today I met with my trainer, Jackie, to discuss technique training as well as which starts to go for next year in Fukuoka. We decided that I should send my PBs of what I would want to qualify for plus the qualifying times for those events for Kwangju, which is where the last World Masters Swimming Championships were held in 2019. So, I looked up my PBs over the last 7 years (I started competitive Masters swimming 7 years ago). What was obvious was that most my PBs were achieved 7 years ago! [see below]

This got me thinking – which I don’t do that often – wouldn’t it be a great challenge to swim all PBs again! In for a penny, in for a pound - WTF I’ll go for all the PBs (BTW, I haven’t swum a 200m fly competitively yet ). So choosing which starts to go for won’t be much of an issue. The realization then dawned on me that I will have to swim faster than ever before; but I’m up for that challenge and I know I’ll have the support of my team mates, family and friends to achieve this.
The Chinese philosopher, Lao Zhu, once said “The journey of a thousand miles begins with one step.” Loosely translated to our endeavour: “The journey of a thousand K’s begins with one stroke.” Together we’ve taken the first steps and started on this journey – I just wonder how it will end!
